Marking its fourth edition and first physical gathering since 2019, Sake Matsuri 2022 returns this summer to reclaim its place as Singapore's premier craft sake event. Having successfully navigated the challenges of the last two years, the festival returns with renewed scale and ambition, offering enthusiasts a curated exploration of artisanal Japanese brewing in a vibrant, open-air setting.
From funky to fizzy, the 3rd Sake Matsuri was a masterclass in diversity. We explored the wilder side of brewing with high-acidity Kimoto and Yamahai labels, balanced by the light, effervescent charm of premium sparkling sakes. The journey concluded with the rich, soul-warming depth of aged sakes—smoky, nutty, and reminiscent of a fine Sherry. It was an edition dedicated to the true breadth of artisanal Japanese brewing.
Following the overwhelming success of its inaugural launch, Sake Matsuri Singapore proves the city’s thirst for artisanal craft is only growing. Returning a mere six months after its first edition, the festival’s 'Spring Run' shifts the spotlight to Haruzake (spring sake). This seasonal iteration offers enthusiasts a rare chance to explore fresh, vibrant brews specifically crafted for the season, further cementing the festival’s role as the definitive platform for sake appreciation in the region.
Launched to champion the craft sake movement, the first Sake Matsuri Singapore invited enthusiasts to discover the artistry behind artisanal brews and explore rare labels previously unavailable in Singapore. Beyond a simple tasting, the inaugural event served as a bridge between century-old Japanese traditions and the modern Singaporean palate. Guests were given the rare opportunity to engage directly with master brewers and sommeliers, gaining a deeper understanding of the labor-intensive 'koji' process and the regional nuances that define boutique sake. By showcasing over 200 unique labels, the festival successfully transformed a niche interest into a vibrant community of craft appreciators.
